Simon: Our point of difference is how we make our rings. Every piece is created in-house. Come and discover the techniques that less than 10% Of jewellers are using today. This process gives the ring far more strength and durability.
Simon: How’s it going today?
Client: The first time that we came in, he sat down with us, had a bit of a chat to find out what we had in mind. And well, if we had any ideas in mind. And then he sort of had a sketch pad and came up with a few different designs to see if any of them were what we liked. He also, I guess had some ideas and we might not have thought of.
Simon: One idea is to encase the actual diamond in a fine rim of metal and I would suggest that you do this in a white gold or platinum. So you got that silver look, which is close in colour to the white diamond. So what we’ve got here… I haven’t finished it yet, but the focus is on the centre stone and then we’ve got some small diamonds, round diamonds, in the shoulder. It’s got a bit of a slightly art deco feel to it.
Client: Yeah, I like that because you do need to choose a diamond. Simon will help you choose a diamond. It’s worth understanding what are the things that you should be looking for and it’s a whole different language and a bit of a different world, if you’re not part of that. So for us, yeah, we found it really interesting, but it was also really useful.
Client: Yeah, the diamond faces sit fairly flush, or is that center one raised?
Client: I’d like to think it would raise it a little bit, just to separate it from the other diamonds, to keep with the focus on the hero of the actual piece.
Client: For me, it was really important to come in and feel comfortable straight away. Both with Simon, but also, I guess the environment. I actually really enjoyed coming in here a couple of times. I looked forward to the set up. He’s got the workshop right next door. So you kind of feel that you’re in the presence of the work being done and quite close to the design process, but also the handmade aspect of his work.
Simon: The reason why we hand-make our rings is because there’s more strength in a hand made ring. And when buying an engagement ring, we’d like to think that an engagement ring is for a lifetime and so is the relationship. So that’s why we like to hand-make them.
Client: I think it made it a lot more special in knowing that it’s a unique design and there’s only one just like it. It makes it more special to us because it’s already a piece that has a lot of significance attached to it. So I think just being able to have a say in what the ring is going to look like and then having somebody be able to bring that to life is a pretty amazing service.
Simon: The passion is the design. I really enjoy making it as well, but ultimately, it’s actually unveiling the ring.
Simon: Come on in.
Simon: Are you excited about this?
Client: Very excited.
Client: Very excited.
Client: I was pretty confident coming in, having gone through the process, so to actually see that it had materialised was pretty amazing and credit to Simon.
Client: Oh wow! That’s beautiful.
Client: Yeah, it’s come up really well.
Simon: What do you think?
Client: It’s lovely, yeah.
Simon: That’s what we want. This is, like I said, the best part of the job. I love unveiling a ring to a customer for the very first time. Seeing the smile on their faces gives me great satisfaction. The ultimate compliment is getting a referral from one of my customers. To know that they are happy to recommend family and friends is very satisfying.
Client: I definitely recommend him because of the time that he takes to get to know the couple and what they want. And knowing that he’s made it by hand in the studio, that’s right next door to where you’re meeting with him, is an experience that I think is a really unique one.
