Popping the question? Get engaged at these favourite wineries
The Bellarine Peninsula is home to some famous winery wedding such as Australia’s Olympic Gold Medalist Kathy Freeman wedding at Spray Farm. While spray farm is now closed, there are some fantastic wineries and a whiskery that is a stone’s throw away that are the perfect, classy and romantic places to propose to your bride-to-be.
Before you hop in the car or ferry from Docklands, make sure you have the perfect engagement ring designed and custom made by Simon West with you.
Here is our pick of romantic places to pop the question and get the girl.
Scotchman’s Hill is one of the, if not the oldest winery on the peninsula. Known for its cool climate reds, it is an award-winning wine and is rated among James Halliday’s Top 100 Australian Wineries. So… where to propose, Scotchman’s Hill has a gorgeous, French provincial farmhouse style cellar door that offers platters and light lunches. You’ll be served local and seasonal produce.
Scotchman’s hill doesn’t offer accommodation.
Terrindah Estate is one of the newer wineries in the region. Like the other wineries, there is a cellar door overlooking Corio Bay. Not only does it offer award-winning wines, what’s even more romantic at Terrindah Estate making it a perfect engagement venue to ask for your ladies hand in marriage, is it offers cooking classes and also glamping among the vines.
Jack Rabbit is a stone’s throw away from Terrindah Estate. In recent years it has been renovated with not only a cellar door but with a full-service restaurant overlooking spectacular views and canola flowers when in season. It is proud of its sustainable vineyard practices. Many weddings are held here due to its amazing views and even the wedding landing has been renovated. Therefore, once you have proposed you could secretly be investigating it as a wedding venue. Unlike Terrindah Estate, it does not offer accommodation
Bellarine Estate Vineyard specialises in Cool Climate reds. It operates an award-winning French-inspired restaurant where you can pair your meal with its award-winning wines. The Bellarine estate offers a cosy country environment with a fireplace to match its old historical “general store” architecture. It offers a free shuttle bus on Saturdays and Sundays to and from the Portarlington Pier to meet the ferry from Docklands. Try the shiraz, its a favourite.
Established in 2015, the Bellarine distillery is the first distillery in the Peninsula. While the cellar door is named the Whiskery, the distillery is famous for its Gins. To propose, it offers a rustic environment where the farming original shed has been renovated with an open fire and live music during the winter months. In the warmer months, there is heaps of seating outside. The cellar door does offer cheese, wood-fired pizza and locally sourced fresh food produce platters.
